One Leaky Facet....

So Mike stayed home sick last Wednesday, and was taking a shower and the water wouldn't turn off in the shower. He had to shut off all the water in the house to fix it. So I come home early to no water in the house and a husband saying that we need to rip apart the shower to see what is going on. Then we were thinking about how we always have wanted to remodel our tiny bathroom, so we might as well do it all right now. So with some help from friends we formally start:

Step #1: DEMOLITION.
One might say that step #1 is the most exciting step in remodeling (like Mike, Matt, and Scott) however I, on the other hand, say it is the worst! Everything was a disaster. They didn't bother cleaning the guest bedroom up a little bit before they started punching holes in the sheet rock. My entire house was covered in dust. My allergies started to act up and it was just miserable. The boys had fun, so I guess I can't complain too much, becuase they were willing to get started. This is my mighty demolition crew: So by Wednesday night, I had no bathroom at all. All there was, was a sink sticking out of the wall, no toilet or anything. Which brings me to: Step #2: FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU WANT TO REMODEL
You would think that Step #2 would really be step #1, but no, not in our house. We had a lot of it all figured out after spending 4 hours in Home Depot on Wednesday but we didn't really know what we were doing.
We didn't really know where we were going to put the new wall or what we were going to do with the floor and the shower. Thursday morning we really had to start thinking on what we really wanted and work out all the details. After making a small list of everything we needed, we went to Home Depot to start the next step: Step

#3: SPEND ALL LIFE SAVINGS ON REMODEL

Who would have known that bathrooms are so expensive? Freak! When we went to Home Depot and day before and priced things out, we were thinking we could do this for a pretty good amount. Well, we thought of all the big things like the counter top, cabinet, tub, tile and sheet rock. We didn't really price out all the grout, plumbing pipes, mortar, texture for the sheet rock, paint, caulk, the board that goes under the tile, wood for the wall, and all the tools that we would need. Boy were we unprepared! We didn't think about ANY the small things that we would need. After everything is bought (hopefully everything) we are about double what we were first thinking. This project wasn't starting out too well, but we did move onto the next step:

Step #4: TRY TO PRETEND LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING

Okay, we weren't on this step for very long. Mike and I had a few good laughs and thoughts like "Wow! That would have been bad if we didn't realize that we have to put a board under the tile" and small little things like that. Who would have known? During this period, we also had a lot of little arguments, not very fun. So after about an hour or two or this step, we move onto:

Step #5: CALL DAD

This step was probably the most successful step that we had all week. Saturday my dad came down and he helped build our wall and went to Home Depot to get all the extra little things that we forgot (like paint, no one thinks of paint when remodeling!) :) So we got a lot done this last Saturday. We have also had a ton of help from our other friends. We definitely wouldn't have been this far with out them. For the most part, everyone worked pretty hard and fast, sometimes Mike and Scott got a little distracted and I would have to get on them to keep working when I found them doing things like this:
We have now started the tiling and putting up walls. I can't wait until I have a toilet and shower again! We have some down and A LOT to go. Wish us luck and stay tuned for the final product!

Nice job on calling Dad. Who knew about all those little details? If you ask me I still say walls are overrated.

This blog is a complete fabrication of Kaci's imagination that can only be attributed to Kaci doing absolutly nothing.

Wow that sounds like a lot of work! But what fun to be able to do what you want with your home!

That is so funny, start tearing stuff down and acting like you know what your doing.... then call the expert, dad! I bet it feels good to have it remodeled, you just needed a leak to push you!

Mike IS a little mentally challenged, are you SURE he was turning the faucet handle the right way? Maybe you should have checked before you gave the go ahead for tearing out walls?
