Survivor Picnic Season 1

Last week our dear neighbors, the Meudts, invited us up to the mountains for a little picnic. We went up intending on finding the perfect spot, a picnic table, some trees to provide a little shade, a bright green meadow with wild flowers and a little stream running through it and all of natures little creatures....well, all we found was a pull off with some rocks in a circle for a fire pit filled with empty beer cans, one 2x4 with a couple nails sticking out of it that we used as a bench, overgrown shrubs with thorns and a small creek with toilet paper scatered around (used? I have no idea) and was infested with mosquitos.... ahhhh.... the next best spot.

We unloaded the cooler and ate some DELICIOUS turkey sandwiches, string cheese, chips and pop. It ended up that the mountains are slightly chillier than where we live, so the boys decided that they would be the heros and build a fire.

One problem....

No lighter....

This didn't stop the boys from trying though. They gathered some kindling and cleared a spot next to the beer cans. How do you think one would start a fire with no lighter? Kevin wouldn't let Kambree lure in passing cars with her great dance moves so we had to move on to the boys ideas. They decided hand sanitizer had alcohol in it and would do just fine, so they spread it all over the kindling and were ready. First they thought of a cigarette lighter, but come to find out someone had removed it from the car, they had to go to the next option....stick and shoelace, noone was willing to give up a shoelace, so instead Mike decided to try the dog leash. Gus wasn't going for that so they thought and thought and all of a sudden a light came on... ROCKS!!!

Yes, they were going to create sparks from rocks which would then land on the hand sanitizer, which would then create a fire, which would then warm us up. So they were at it. While the boys were hitting rocks together, Kambree and I decided that we would just build our own fire... we got nowhere except a chip of a rock in my eye, so it was up to the big, tough, ingenious, manly men to warm up their wives and create fire. They were doing great, sparks were flying everywhere and we were all sure that the kindling would burst into flames at any moment. As we watched, we heard the sound of rocks colliding with each other and then... a loud thud... and then a loud !&*$@#!... just kidding, but he did yell. Mike was getting so excited banging the rocks together that he didn't realize that his thumb had slipped down the rock right in the deadly path of the other. Here is the battle wound...
Needless to say, after many tears of laughter from Kevin, the fire was never built and they started packing up so we could go home. While they were getting everything together, Kambree and I decided that we really wanted to climb the mountain on the other side of the road. We only got a little past that first rock, and then decided it was too dangerous with flip flops on, so we had to come down.

Survivor Picnic ended up being only one episode because everyone was sent home. Oh well, it was still fun, thanks Meudts!!

Humm... sorry to hear that you didn't find the spot that you expected. Glad you had fun and all, but don't you know that you should keep your little boy safer... I know they always want to do things but some are dangerous.... lol! Sorry couldn't help it, LOL!

Wow, impressive efforts. Let's face it, without mom and dad and their trailer and camp gear - we just can't do it!
